About Bizkarreta

Bizkarreta, also known as Bizkarreta-Gerendiain or Viscarret-Guerendiáin, is a small village in Navarra between Roncesvalles and Zubiri on the Camino Francés.

The town has a long Camino history. It was probably founded in the 12th century and once had a pilgrims’ hospital, making it an important stopping point before Roncesvalles became the main centre of pilgrim hospitality in the area. The old hospital has mostly disappeared, but the town’s connection to the Camino is still part of its identity.

For pilgrims today, Bizkarreta is a quiet and practical place to stop. It has accommodation, a few places to eat or drink, and a small supermarket. The village is compact, with stone houses clustered around the road and mountain scenery around the Erro Valley.

The main sight is the Church of San Pedro, known for its historic doorway and simple village setting. Bizkarreta is not a big sightseeing stop, but it offers what many pilgrims want at this point of the Camino: a calm place to rest, eat, sleep, and continue toward Zubiri the next morning.
