Packing Tips
The 10% Rule
Your loaded backpack should weigh no more than 10% of your body weight. Most experienced pilgrims carry 6-8 kg. You'll carry every gram for up to 800 km.
Less is more
If you think you might not need it, leave it at home. You can buy almost anything along the Camino, and your shoulders will thank you.
Test everything
Walk at least 100 km in your shoes before you start. Test your pack loaded to full weight on a long walk, not just around the block.
Layer up
The Camino crosses mountains, meseta, and coast. Layers let you adapt to anything, from freezing Pyrenees mornings to hot Castilian afternoons.
