Sigüeiro

The river runs along the edge of town and there are paths along both banks. After a long day of walking, a gentle stroll by the water with no pack on your back is a small luxury. The evening light on the river is soft and the sound of water is calming.

If staying here overnight, tomorrow you will walk 17 km into Santiago de Compostela. Tonight is your last evening as a pilgrim on the trail. The atmosphere in Sigueiro's albergues and restaurants is charged with anticipation. Some pilgrims are jubilant, others reflective, a few are emotional. Have a good dinner, set your alarm, and savour the feeling of being one sleep away from the Cathedral.

Most pilgrims leave Sigueiro early to arrive in Santiago in time for the noon pilgrim mass. The route passes through eucalyptus forest and quiet hamlets. Many pilgrims describe the final approach on the Camino Ingles as one of the most beautiful of any route into Santiago, with a particularly enchanting forest section in the last few kilometres. Pack your bag one last time. Tomorrow, you arrive.

Sigueiro has several restaurants and bars serving good Galician food at pilgrim prices. This is your last small-town dinner before Santiago. Order the caldo gallego, the empanada, and a bottle of local wine. Talk to the pilgrims around you. Some of them you will see again at the Cathedral tomorrow. Some you will never see again.
