About Larrasoaña
Larrasoaña is a small village in Navarra on the Camino Francés, between Zubiri and Pamplona. It sits in the Esteribar Valley and is one of the more traditional Camino stops on this section.
The village has a strong pilgrim history. It grew around the Monastery of San Agustín and became an important medieval stopping point for pilgrims. By the 12th century, Larrasoaña had pilgrim hospitals, and in 1174 King Sancho VI of Navarra granted the town a charter to support the flow of pilgrims on the Camino.
For pilgrims today, Larrasoaña is a practical place to stop after Zubiri or before continuing toward Pamplona. It has pilgrim accommodation, some places to eat and drink, and a quiet village feel. Services are useful but still limited, so it is worth checking opening times, especially outside the main season.
The main sights are the Church of San Nicolás de Bari and the medieval bridge known as the Bridge of Bandits. The bridge gets its name from stories of thieves robbing pilgrims and travellers as they crossed the river.
Larrasoaña is a good stop for pilgrims who want a smaller, calmer alternative to staying in Zubiri or pushing all the way to Pamplona. It has enough Camino history to feel meaningful, but it still feels like a quiet Navarrese village rather than a busy stage town.
