About Lascabanes

Lascabanes is a tiny hamlet in the Quercy Blanc hills between Cahors and Lauzerte. The hamlet has a gite d'etape and very basic services.

The surrounding landscape of white limestone hills, sunflower fields, and scattered farmhouses is characteristic of this region. Services are very limited.

Lascabanes is a quiet, remote stop that offers a taste of deep rural France far from tourist circuits.

Things to Do in Lascabanes

Sightseeing

Visit the 13th-Century Church

The small parish church in Lascabanes dates from the 13th century and has the warm limestone walls typical of the Quercy Blanc. The interior is simple and quiet. The churchyard is a pleasant spot to sit in the evening. Get your credential stamped if the church is open.

Camino Moment

Walk the Quercy Blanc

The Quercy Blanc between Cahors and Lauzerte is one of the gentlest and most attractive stretches of Le Chemin du Puy. The pale limestone soil, the sunflower fields, the small farms, and the distant views across rolling hills create a landscape that feels generous and calm. After the austere causses and the intensity of Cahors, this section invites you to simply walk and look. The beauty here is understated, and all the better for it.

Food & Drink

Eat at the Gite

The gite demi-pension is the only option. Expect a communal dinner of Quercy cooking: duck in various forms, local vegetables, cheese (probably cabecou or Rocamadour), and a dessert. Bread, wine, and good company are included. The simplicity of these meals, repeated night after night in tiny villages, becomes one of the defining rhythms of Le Chemin du Puy.

Relaxation

Remember the Pont Valentre

Earlier today you crossed the Pont Valentre in Cahors, one of the finest medieval bridges in Europe and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Three fortified towers, six Gothic arches, and a legend involving the Devil. If you were too tired or too focused on the route to fully appreciate it, sit outside the gite tonight and think about it. You walked across a 700-year-old bridge this morning. That is not a normal Tuesday.
