About Tui
Tui is a historic cathedral town on the Spanish bank of the Rio Minho, directly across the border from Valenca in Portugal. The town's imposing Catedral de Santa Maria, which blends Romanesque and Gothic styles, dominates the hilltop above the old town.
Tui is one of the most popular starting points for the Camino Portugues, as it sits approximately 117 km from Santiago, comfortably above the 100 km minimum required for the Compostela certificate. The town has a full range of services including albergues, hotels, restaurants, supermarkets, ATMs, pharmacies, and a train station.
The old town is well-preserved, with narrow stone streets, the Convento de las Clarisas, and pleasant riverside walks along the Minho. Pilgrims should note that from Tui onwards, they will encounter significantly more fellow pilgrims, as this is where many shorter Camino journeys begin.
