Housed in a restored 19th-century train station declared a site of Cultural Interest, this pilgrim-friendly hostel offers shared and private rooms, communal dinners, and a garden, operating seasonally from March through mid-November.
Private Albergue
The Albergue Andén de Novellana occupies the building of the old Novellana railway station, a structure declared a site of Cultural Interest in Asturias. The station once served the narrow-gauge rail line that connected small coastal communities along this stretch of the Cantabrian coast, and the building retains the character of that era. Since 2019, it has been converted into a pilgrim hostel run by Simon and Luz, offering a setting that most walkers on the Camino del Norte won't find anywhere else along the route.
The hostel sits about one kilometre from the main road, in a quiet rural spot that feels genuinely removed from traffic and noise. Shared rooms sleep four or eight people, and there is one private room available. A communal dinner can be arranged for eleven euros, which is often a good option given the hostel's distance from the village centre. A kitchen is also available for those who prefer to cook. The covered bicycle shelter and garden add to the sense that this is a place designed for slow travel rather than a quick overnight stop.
The seasonal availability is worth noting: the hostel opens from March through mid-November, but closes on the first and fifteenth of each month from May through October. Check-in runs from 2pm to 6pm. The hosts speak Spanish, English, French, and Portuguese, which tends to make it a sociable stop for international pilgrims passing through this quieter section of the northern Camino.
