Delete Your Account

This page explains how to delete your Camino Koala account and the data associated with it. It applies to the Camino Koala mobile app and to caminokoala.com — both use the same account, so deleting it removes your data from both.

There are three ways to delete your account. Choose whichever is easiest for you — the result is the same.

Option 1: Delete in the mobile app

1. 1Open the Camino Koala app and log in to your account.
2. 2Go to Profile.
3. 3Scroll down to Delete account and tap it.
4. 4Optionally, tell us your reason for leaving. This is not required and does not affect the deletion.
5. 5Tap Delete my account to confirm.

You will be signed out immediately once the deletion is confirmed.

Option 2: Delete on the website

1. 1Log in at caminokoala.com and go to My Account.
2. 2Open Account Settings.
3. 3Find the Delete Account section.
4. 4Click Delete.
5. 5Optionally, tell us your reason for leaving. This is not required and does not affect the deletion.
6. 6Click Yes, delete my account to confirm.

You will be signed out immediately once the deletion is confirmed.

Option 3: Ask us to delete it for you

If you cannot access your account, email us at hello@caminokoala.com and we will delete it for you. Please:

• Send the email from the email address you want deleted, so we can confirm the request is genuine
• Use the subject line “Account deletion request”

If we cannot verify that the request comes from the account holder, we may ask you for further confirmation before deleting anything. We respond to deletion requests within 30 days.

What gets deleted

When your account is deleted, we remove the personal data we hold about you, including:

• Your account details — name, email address, and password
• Your profile, including any profile photo and phone number
• Your newsletter and notification preferences
• Your friend connections, sharing settings, and any live location being shared with friends
• Analytics data linked to your account
• The link between your account and anything you contributed to the app (see below)

What stays, no longer linked to you

Contributions you made to the app stay in place so they remain useful to other pilgrims, but they are unlinked from your account and are no longer shown with your name or profile. This includes:

• Reviews
• Walk logs and recorded stages
• Photos you uploaded to points of interest or reviews

If you want these removed as well, just ask. Email us at hello@caminokoala.com — either before you delete your account or afterwards — and we will delete them. Tell us which contributions you mean, or ask us to remove all of them.

What else we keep

• Anonymised and aggregated data: Information that can no longer be used to identify you may be retained for analytics and to improve the service
• Records we are legally required to keep: Where the law requires us to retain certain information, we keep only what is necessary and for no longer than required

How long it takes

Your access ends as soon as the deletion is confirmed. Your personal data is removed from our systems, and your contributions are unlinked from your account, within 30 days — including in our backups — except where we are required by law to retain it.

Before you delete

• Deletion is permanent. There is no way to recover your account or your saved data afterwards.
• Uninstalling the app does not delete your account. You need to follow one of the options above.
• Your reviews, walk logs, and photos stay in the app, unlinked from your account. Email us if you want them removed too.
• If you want a copy of your data before deleting it, email us at hello@caminokoala.com first and we will send it to you.
• You can create a new account at any time, but it will start empty.
