Albergue Andiketxe

Andiketxe sits directly on the Camino del Norte route in the small hamlet of Olabe, housed in a 17th-century Basque farmhouse (caserio) that has been converted into a pilgrim hostel. The stone rural architecture typical of the Basque Country gives the place a grounded, historic feel, and the building retains much of its original character despite the modern comforts added since it opened in 2017.

The hostel is run privately by Borja and is oriented toward pilgrims, though not exclusively for them. Two shared dormitories sleep 12 and 8 respectively, with 20 beds total. Guests have access to a full kitchen, washing machines and dryers, and covered bicycle storage with tools and a bike wash station, making it well set up for both walkers and cyclists on the route.

What sets Andiketxe apart from a standard pilgrim hostel is the emphasis on food and atmosphere. The kitchen garden supplies fresh produce for the communal dinners offered each evening, with additional ingredients sourced locally where possible. There are two terraces, a garden, and a dedicated chill-out area, which makes it a comfortable place to wind down after a day on the trail. The combination of old Basque farmhouse architecture and an unhurried rural setting gives it a distinctly local character that stands apart from more utilitarian accommodation on the route.
