About this property

Casa Pepa sits in the small settlement of Santa Mariña, along the rural stretch of the Camino between Negreira and Dumbría on the way to Finisterre and Muxía. This section of the route sees fewer pilgrims than the main Camino Francés, and places like this one are a large part of what gives it its distinct, quieter character.

The stone building dates to around 1900 and was originally a family home. In 2010, Flora, whose family had long owned the property, undertook a careful restoration to convert it into a pilgrim hostel. The work was done with attention to the original structure: stone walls and woodwork were preserved rather than replaced, and the interior was adapted for guests without losing the feel of a traditional Galician rural house.

One of the more unusual details inside is a stone basin in the dining room, which was historically used to prepare hot chocolate for priests who gathered at the house for meetings. The original stone sink has also been kept intact. A fireplace in the entrance dining room adds to the sense of stepping into a working rural home rather than a purpose-built hostel.

Flora prepares all the food herself, drawing on local recipes and natural ingredients. The meals have earned a solid reputation among pilgrims for both quality and generosity. The large shaded terrace is a good place to rest and take in the surrounding countryside, and the property offers individual rooms rather than the dormitory-style bunks found at many albergues along the route.
