Albergue da Estrela

Albergue da Estrela sits in the small coastal settlement of Viladesuso, in the municipality of Oia, along the Portuguese Coastal Camino. This stretch of the route runs close to the Atlantic shoreline through Galicia's Baixo Miño comarca, and the albergue makes the most of that setting with a garden and terrace that look out toward the sea.

The hostel is family-run and has clearly been put together with care. Rather than rows of standard bunks, the 15 beds are individually designed, each with its own curtain for privacy, personal lighting, a charging point, and a secure locker. Bedding is included, which is not always the case on the Camino. The shared kitchen is fully equipped for pilgrims who want to cook, and free coffee and tea are available throughout the day. There is also a self-service laundry with both washer and dryer, a practical bonus after days of walking coastal paths.

In 2023, it was ranked the second-best albergue on the entire Portuguese Coastal route, a reflection of the attention to detail that distinguishes it from more basic pilgrim accommodation. For walkers making their way north toward Santiago, Viladesuso sits at a point where the route hugs the coastline before pushing further into Galicia, and stopping here gives a genuine sense of the quieter, less-trafficked character of the Costa variant compared to the more popular Central route.
