Albergue de Peregrinos de Lezama

The pilgrim hostel in Lezama sits within the Uribarri Topalekua civic centre, about 200 metres off the Camino from the roundabout at the edge of town. It is run by volunteer hospitaleros from the Agrupación de Hospitaleros Voluntarios Camino de Santiago para Bizkaia, a Basque volunteer group that has managed the place since it opened in 2009.

The setup is simple and communal: a single large room serves as dormitory, lounge, and kitchen combined, with bathrooms separate. There are 20 bunk beds, and during August the nearby municipal sports centre opens an additional 20 places to handle the busiest weeks of the season. The hostel is exclusive to pilgrims and does not accept advance reservations, operating on a first-come basis from June through September.

The minimum donation of 10 euros covers a bunk and pillow cover. A washing machine and dryer are available for a small donativo, and there is a microwave, fridge, and secure bike storage on site. The hostel also issues the Credencial del Peregrino for two euros, useful for pilgrims just starting their journey or needing a replacement stamp booklet. Pets are welcome but only in tents outside.
