Hospedería San Blas is a pilgrim-friendly albergue in Santa Catalina de Somoza offering shared dorms from €15 and private rooms, with bar-restaurant and breakfast available, open year-round with advance booking required in low season.
Private Albergue
Hospedería San Blas has been serving pilgrims and travellers in Santa Catalina de Somoza since 2006, sitting on the Calle Real, the main street that has functioned as the route of the Camino Francés through this small Maragato village for centuries.
Santa Catalina de Somoza lies in the comarca of La Maragatería, a region with a distinct cultural identity whose people, the Maragatos, were historically known as muleteers and long-distance traders. Walking through the village, pilgrims pass stone houses characteristic of the area, and the surroundings are typical of the high meseta approaching the Cruz de Ferro and the mountains beyond.
The hostel offers shared dormitory beds at 15 euros per night, with 20 places across two dormitories, plus eight private rooms. Heating is available for an additional 7 euros, which is worth considering given the elevation and the often cool temperatures even in spring and autumn. The bar and restaurant make it a convenient stop for a meal without needing to move on to Astorga. Breakfast is available, and there is a washer and dryer on site, as well as a bicycle shed. The hostel is open year-round, though a reservation is recommended in low season. Check-in begins at 1pm and the doors close at 11pm.
