A pilgrim-only albergue in El Acebo de San Miguel open since 1993, offering dormitory and private rooms alongside a bar-restaurant serving El Bierzo regional wine and a small shop with basic supplies for walkers on the Camino.
Private Albergue
Mesón El Acebo has been welcoming pilgrims since 1993, making it one of the longer-established stops in the small mountain village of El Acebo de San Miguel, a hamlet perched on the descent from the Cruz de Ferro into the Bierzo valley. The village itself is one of the more atmospheric on this stretch of the Camino Francés, with its slate-roofed stone houses and narrow main street largely unchanged over centuries.
The albergue sits on the Calle Real, the old road that doubles as the Camino route through town, so pilgrims pass directly in front of it. It operates exclusively for pilgrims and offers a mix of dormitory beds and private rooms, along with a bar and restaurant serving the local cuisine of El Bierzo, a comarca known for its wine, peppers, and botillo sausage. The house wine here comes in the traditional bottle typical of the region, worth trying if you haven't encountered it yet on the route.
A small shop on site stocks basic supplies, both food and non-food items, which is useful given how few services exist between here and Molinaseca, the next town of any size. The albergue also makes its washing machine and dryer available to anyone without shelter, a practical gesture in a village this small. Note that it closes on Tuesdays and shuts entirely through December and January.
