A municipal pilgrim hostel in La Virgen del Camino, open April to October, offering 40 dormitory beds on a donation basis with breakfast included, run by volunteer hospitaleros under the City Hall of Valverde de la Virgen.
Donativo
The Municipal Hostel of La Virgen del Camino sits in the heart of this roadside town on the Camino Francés, just a short walk from the striking Sanctuary of the Virgin of the Camino, which draws pilgrims and visitors in its own right. The town marks an important junction on the route, where walkers must choose between the traditional royal road and the more modern path into León.
The hostel has been welcoming pilgrims since 2006 and is run by hospitable volunteers on behalf of the local municipality. It operates on a donativo basis, meaning pilgrims contribute what they can, and breakfast is included. With 40 beds across two shared dormitories, it is a modest but well-equipped stop, offering a kitchen, refrigerator, microwave, and bicycle storage. The building is also accessible for people with reduced mobility, which is relatively uncommon among smaller pilgrim hostels.
Check-in runs from 2pm to 10pm, with lights out at 10:30pm. The hostel opens seasonally from April through October and does not accept advance reservations, so arrival timing matters during busier months. Given its central, road-adjacent location, it is a convenient overnight stop for those pacing their approach to León or arriving late in the day after a long stretch from the Meseta.
