Albergue Porta de Santiago

Albergue Porta de Santiago sits in O Pedrouzo, the last major stop before Santiago de Compostela on the Camino Francés. Most pilgrims arrive here with just one stage remaining, making it a place of particular anticipation: Santiago is roughly 20 kilometres away, and the mood tends to reflect that.

The albergue reserves 20 beds specifically for pilgrims who can show a credential stamped to prove they have walked at least 500 kilometres. These beds are held until 4pm, after which they open to others. To secure one, pilgrims need to make a reservation the day before their planned arrival, either by WhatsApp or email. It is worth noting that reservations are not taken further in advance than that.

O Pedrouzo itself is a small but well-equipped town that has grown considerably around the needs of Camino traffic. It offers supermarkets, pharmacies, and a range of places to eat, which makes it a practical last stop for resupplying or sorting kit before the final push into the city. The surrounding landscape is eucalyptus forest typical of this part of Galicia, and the morning walk out of town towards Monte do Gozo and the cathedral is one the pilgrims tend to remember.
