Donativo Albergue Izzarra

Albergue Izzarra is a small, privately run pilgrim hostel in Caborredondo, a quiet rural hamlet in the Cantabrian municipality of Alfoz de Lloredo. It sits at the foot of the road through the village, along the Camino del Norte, the coastal route across northern Spain.

The hostel has been welcoming pilgrims since 2016 and is run by Giulia Sottanis. It operates on a donativo basis, meaning guests contribute what they can rather than paying a fixed rate, a model that reflects the hospitality traditions associated with the historic pilgrim roads to Santiago de Compostela. The single dormitory accommodates up to 16 people in a two-level sleeping space.

What makes Izzarra stand out on this stretch of the Camino is the sense of community it offers. Communal dinners and breakfasts are available by donation, giving pilgrims a chance to share a meal and rest properly after what can be a demanding coastal stage. Practical amenities include a washing machine, bed sheets, and bike storage in the backyard.

A few things worth noting before arriving: the hostel is closed on Fridays, operates seasonally from mid-March to late November, and accepts reservations only for the day before. Check-in runs from 3 to 8 in the afternoon.
