Taberna Vella, Albergue - Heidi´s place

Taberna Vella, known informally as Heidi's place, is a small albergue sitting along the Camino de Santiago in the rural parish of Burres, in the municipality of Arzúa. This stretch of Galicia puts pilgrims within striking distance of Santiago de Compostela, making it a natural stopping point during the final days of the Camino Francés.

The hostel has a distinctly personal character, run with the kind of hands-on hospitality that gives it a reputation among pilgrims. One of the more memorable touches is the communal dinner, a three-course meal served with wine, where guests eat together around a shared table. Anyone with dietary needs should flag these at least two days before arriving.

The house rules are refreshingly straightforward. Pilgrims who haven't left by noon are expected to pitch in with cleaning before the next group arrives at 2 pm. It's a practical arrangement that keeps things running smoothly and gives the place a cooperative, community feel rather than the anonymity of a larger hostel. Reservations are accepted, though no further out than one week in advance.
