Albergue Zaldiko

Albergue Zaldiko sits in the center of Zubiri, positioned directly on the Camino Francés route as pilgrims pass through town after descending from the Pyrenees. Zubiri itself is best known for the Puente de la Rabia, a medieval bridge spanning the Arga River, which the Camino crosses right at the edge of town. Local legend holds that animals circling the bridge's central pillar three times would be cured of rabies, giving the bridge its name.

The albergue has been operating since 2005 under private ownership, run by María Eugenia and Óscar. It offers 24 dormitory beds across 8-bed bunk rooms, along with three private rooms including double and triple options. The hostel is open from March through October, with check-in available from late morning into the early afternoon.

For pilgrims arriving after the long first stage from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, roughly 21 kilometers including the crossing of the Pyrenees, Zubiri is a natural stopping point. The albergue is equipped with a washer and dryer, individual lockers, bed sheets, and a microwave and refrigerator, which covers most of what tired walkers need. It also stamps the Credential del Peregrino. The hostel is accessible to people with reduced mobility and has covered bicycle storage for those doing the route by bike.
