About This Stage
A moderate stage approaching Santander, the capital of Cantabria. The route follows the coast before reaching the bay, where a ferry crossing (or long walk around) brings pilgrims into the city centre.
The walking is relatively gentle with pleasant coastal scenery and beach sections. The ferry across the Bay of Santander is a scenic highlight, with views of the city's waterfront and the Magdalena Peninsula.
Santander is an elegant seaside city with beautiful beaches (especially El Sardinero), the Magdalena Royal Palace, and the Botin Centre designed by Renzo Piano. The city has comprehensive services and accommodation at all levels. The food scene is excellent, with fresh seafood a speciality.
Terrain: Coastal paths, beach walking, suburban roads, urban streets, ferry crossing
