Stage 8 of 26

Castrojeriz → Frómista

25 km | 5-8 hours | +391m / -425m

About This Stage

The stage begins with the steep climb up the Alto de Mostelares, the most significant hill on the Meseta. The effort is rewarded with vast panoramic views from the top before a long descent to the Canal de Castilla, which the route follows into Fromista.

After the initial climb, the walking flattens out across the plateau before descending to Boadilla del Camino, a pleasant village with a Gothic rollo (stone column). The final section follows the towpath of the Canal de Castilla, an 18th-century navigation canal, providing a flat and pleasant approach to Fromista.

Fromista is best known for the Iglesia de San Martin, considered one of the purest examples of Romanesque architecture in Spain. The church's perfectly proportioned exterior and carved capitals are outstanding. The town has good services and comfortable accommodation.

Terrain: Steep initial climb, flat Meseta plateau, canal-side paths, some paved roads
