About This Stage
A stage that crosses open countryside before the long suburban approach into Burgos, one of Spain's great historic cities. The first half passes through the village of Ages and across the Meseta, while the second half navigates Burgos's extensive suburbs.
The suburban approach to Burgos can feel long and uninspiring, but the reward is arriving in a city of enormous cultural significance. Burgos Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the finest Gothic cathedrals in Europe. The old town, riverside parks, and excellent food scene make Burgos a major Camino highlight.
Burgos has every service a pilgrim could need. The cathedral alone justifies a rest day. The city's cuisine is renowned, with morcilla (blood sausage) and lechazo (roast lamb) among the local specialties. Multiple accommodation options at all price levels are available.
Terrain: Rolling rural paths, suburban roads, urban streets, some exposed sections
