About Hospital de la Condesa

Hospital da Condesa is a small hamlet in Galicia on the Camino Francés, between O Cebreiro and Padornelo. For pilgrims, it is a quiet mountain stop after the climb into Galicia, useful mainly for rest or a simple overnight rather than a full-service village.

The name points directly to its Camino history. “Hospital” refers to an old pilgrim hospital, traditionally linked to Doña Egilo, a countess who founded a place of care for pilgrims crossing this mountain area. The parish church of San Xoán is the main historic sight, and the hamlet still feels closely tied to the old tradition of sheltering walkers in a remote stretch of the route.

Hospital da Condesa has a Xunta pilgrim albergue, but services are very limited. Pilgrims should not expect a supermarket, pharmacy, ATM, laundry, or a wide choice of food options. For more reliable services, plan around O Cebreiro, Fonfría, Triacastela, or other larger stops.

The main reason to stay here is peace and location. It is a quieter alternative to O Cebreiro and can be useful if you want to split the mountain stage, but arrive prepared because this is still a small rural hamlet with limited options.
