About this stage

Logroño to Nájera · 29 km · up 460 m, down 380 m

A long but flat stage through the heart of La Rioja's wine country. The route passes through a landscape dominated by vineyards, with the famous Navarrete pottery workshops and the hilltop town of Ventosa offering variety along the way.

The walking is physically easy but the distance and lack of shade make it a tiring day in hot weather. The terrain is almost entirely flat, crossing the broad Ebro valley through endless rows of vines. The famous Rioja bodegas are visible from the path, and the region's red earth gives the landscape a distinctive colour.

Najera is a historic town straddling the Najerilla River, with the impressive Monastery of Santa Maria la Real built into the red sandstone cliffs. The monastery contains royal tombs and a beautiful cloister. The town has good services and a pleasant old quarter.

Terrain: Flat vineyard paths, agricultural roads, some paved sections, exposed terrain

    • Must visit

Calle Laurel in Logrono is unmissable for tapas and Rioja wine. Each bar has a signature dish; try several. The octagonal church at Torres del Rio is unique on the Camino. Consider a rest day in Logrono if your schedule allows.

  2. Carry plenty of water

This stage is fairly exposed but flat. Ensure you carry plenty of water for this stage - especially in the heat.

  3. 12.8km

Navarrete is a historic Camino town after Logroño, with albergues, restaurants, shops, wine culture, pottery traditions, and the Church of La Asunción.

  4. Detour?

We recommend taking a detour off the main route via Ventosa (it will add an additional 1km to your journey) but will allow you to take an "art walk". That and Ventosa is a nice place to stop. Follow the "Camino" markers to stay on the main track.
