About Sarrià
Sarria is the most popular starting point on the Camino Frances, as it sits just over 100 km from Santiago, the minimum walking distance required for the Compostela certificate. Pilgrim numbers increase dramatically from here onwards.
The town has a full range of services including albergues, hotels, restaurants, supermarkets, ATMs, pharmacies, and a pilgrim office. The medieval old town climbs uphill from the river, with the ruined Castle of Sarria and the Monastery of la Magdalena worth visiting.
Pilgrims starting in Sarria should note that from here, two stamps per day are required on the credencial (rather than one) to qualify for the Compostela. The Camino from Sarria to Santiago passes through quintessential Galician countryside of small farms, stone walls, and eucalyptus groves.
