A Calle

A Calle is a little larger than the hamlets before it on this stage, and it holds one of the more intriguing footnotes on the Camino Inglés. An inscription on a house here records that King Felipe II spent the night in 1554. He was on his way to A Coruña to set sail for England, where he would marry Queen Mary Tudor, a fitting royal connection for a route named after English pilgrims.

Alongside the historic house you'll find a small chapel, a stone cruceiro and a bar. That bar is likely the last one before Sigüeiro, 12.8 km away, so top up your water and grab a snack here.

Beyond the village, the paved lane follows the line of the old Camiño Real across flat country of maize fields, small woods and farms. Take care crossing the CP-3802, which has no pedestrian crossing, and in wet months expect muddy or waterlogged ground around the springs near O Carballo and A Casanova.
