Sigüeiro is the capital of the municipality of Oroso and the traditional last overnight on the Camino Inglés, less than 16 km from the cathedral. Its landmark is the medieval bridge over the Tambre, one of Galicia's great rivers. Attributed to Fernán Pérez de Andrade in the 14th century, it has six spans and was restored and widened in the 20th century, so vehicles still cross it today.
The bridge has seen its share of drama. Local history recalls a sword fight on it between the knights Álvaro Pérez de Moscoso and Gómez Pérez das Mariñas and their men, reportedly over a woman. Centuries later, in 1846, the area around the bridge saw fighting during that year's Galician uprising. Prehistoric burial mounds scattered around the municipality point to far older settlement.
About a kilometre from town, the Tambre splits around the Illa do Refuxio, a riverside recreation area reached by footbridges, with picnic spots and a river beach. The river here is a trout preserve, and Sigüeiro holds a trout festival each May.
Pilgrims enter through the leafy Parque do Carboeiro and reach the lively main avenue on the N-550, where most services are concentrated. With a short final stage ahead, many walkers aim to reach the Obradoiro in time for lunch or the pilgrim mass.
