Stage 25 of 25

Padrón → Santiago de Compostela

24.5 km | 6-9 hours | +695m / -466m

About This Stage

The final stage of both the Coastal and Central Camino Portugues climbs steadily from Padron through eucalyptus forests and Galician farmland before descending into the outskirts of Santiago de Compostela. The anticipation builds throughout the day as the kilometres count down towards the cathedral.

The route passes through several small villages before entering Santiago's suburban sprawl. The final approach follows a mix of park paths and city streets, with the first glimpse of the cathedral towers providing an emotional moment for most pilgrims. The traditional entry into the old town leads through the Porta do Camino and down narrow medieval streets.

Arriving at the Praza do Obradoiro and standing before the cathedral's baroque facade is the culmination of the journey. The Pilgrim Office (Oficina del Peregrino) near the cathedral issues the Compostela certificate to pilgrims who have walked at least the final 100 kilometres. Daily pilgrim masses are held at the cathedral.

Terrain: Forest paths, rural roads, suburban streets, urban cobblestones into Santiago
