About This Stage

The first full stage in Galicia is a long day through the lush green countryside of southern Galicia. The landscape immediately feels different from Portugal, with horreos (raised granite granaries) replacing the Portuguese espigueiros, and the settlements taking on a distinctly Galician character.

The route follows a mix of forest paths, rural lanes, and quiet roads through small Galician villages. The terrain is gently rolling with no major climbs, but the length of the stage makes it a tiring day. Eucalyptus forests alternate with farmland, and the frequent small villages offer cafes and water.

Redondela is a pleasant coastal town on the Vigo estuary with a distinctive pair of railway viaducts crossing overhead. The town has good services including accommodation, restaurants, supermarkets, and a pharmacy. This is where the Coastal route from Porto merges with the Central route for the final stages into Santiago.

Terrain: Forest trails, rural paths, some paved roads, rolling Galician countryside

Tips for This Stage

This is where the Central and Coastal routes merge. The trail becomes noticeably busier from here to Santiago. Redondela has a good selection of restaurants, and the waterfront area is pleasant for an evening walk.
