Stage 2 of 3

Negreira → Olveiroa

34 km | 9-12 hours | +986m / -880m

About This Stage

The route crosses from the Santiago hinterland into the Costa da Morte (Coast of Death) through deeply rural Galician landscape. The path follows stretches of the old Camino Real to Fisterra, evidenced by place names like Portocamino.

At O Cornado, the route enters the municipality of Mazaricos, the first point on the Costa da Morte. The landscape is dominated by maize fields, gorse (toxos), and outstanding collections of horreos (the horreos de las Maronas are particularly notable). The climb to Monte Aro rewards with spectacular views over the Embalse de Fervenza reservoir.

Olveiroa has rich popular architecture and centuries-old horreos. The 16th-century Ponte Olveira, which historically hosted a traditional fair on both banks, marks the entrance. Here the route splits: west to Fisterra or northwest to Muxia.

Terrain: Forest paths, rural lanes, some paved roads, river valley descent, bridge crossing
