Almaden de la Plata is a small town in the Sierra Norte, named after its connection to the ancient Roman road known as the Via de la Plata (Silver Way). The town has a tradition of marble quarrying.
Pilgrims will find an albergue, restaurants, cafes, and basic services. The town sits in hilly terrain with views over the surrounding sierra.
The walk from Castilblanco is one of the longer stages (29.3 km) and passes through remote countryside with limited services en route.
