About Condeixa-a-Velha
Condeixa-a-Nova is a small town whose greatest attraction lies 2 km to the south: the Roman ruins of Conimbriga, one of the best-preserved Roman archaeological sites on the Iberian Peninsula. The mosaics, the forum, the thermal baths, and the defensive walls are exceptional, and the on-site museum provides excellent context.
Conimbriga predates the more famous Coimbra (to which it gave its name) and was a significant Roman city on the road from Lisbon to Braga. The site is well worth a detour if your schedule allows. Condeixa itself has good services and makes a pleasant overnight stop.
