About Esquiroz
Esquiroz, more commonly written in Basque as Eskirotz or Ezkirotz, is a very small hamlet in Navarra on the Camino Francés between Ilarratz and Larrasoaña.
The village sits in the Esteribar Valley, an area that has been crossed by pilgrims for centuries on the way from Zubiri toward Pamplona. Eskirotz is closely linked with nearby Ilarratz, and the two villages share the Church of Santa Lucía. The church is thought to have medieval origins, though it was heavily altered in the 16th century.
For pilgrims today, Esquiroz is mostly a quiet place to pass through rather than a full service stop. It has traditional stone houses, countryside views, and a peaceful rural setting. There are no major shops or reliable food services, so pilgrims should plan to get food and supplies in Zubiri, Larrasoaña, or later towns.
The main point of interest nearby is the old Abbey of Eskirotz and Ilarratz, a former Romanesque church associated with Benedictine monks. It has become known among some pilgrims because of restoration efforts along the Camino route.
