Ayegui

Ayegui, officially Ayegui / Aiegi, is a town in Navarra on the Camino Francés, just west of Estella-Lizarra. It sits at the foot of Montejurra, surrounded by vineyards and open countryside.

The town has old roots and has long been connected to the movement of pilgrims leaving Estella and heading west across Navarra. Historically, this area sat close to important Camino landmarks and rural estates, with the route passing through on the way toward the Irache area and then Villamayor de Monjardín.

For pilgrims today, Ayegui is mainly a practical stop. It has accommodation, places to eat and drink, shops, and basic services, making it useful for anyone leaving Estella or wanting to break up the stage. It feels more like a small working town than a historic showpiece, but it is convenient and well placed.

After Ayegui, the Camino quickly moves toward vineyards, open countryside, and the next well-known stop at Irache before continuing toward Villamayor de Monjardín.
