About Itero de la Vega

Itero de la Vega is a small village in Palencia province on the Camino Francés, between Itero del Castillo and Boadilla del Camino. For pilgrims, it is the first village in Palencia after crossing the Pisuerga River from Burgos.

The village is closely tied to the historic river crossing at Puente Fitero, one of the important medieval bridges on this section of the Camino. Nearby, the Ermita de San Nicolás has a long tradition of pilgrim hospitality and still operates as a simple donativo albergue in season. Recent local works have also improved the pilgrim rest area in Itero de la Vega, reinforcing its role as a Camino stop.

Itero de la Vega has useful pilgrim services for its size, including accommodation, food options, bars, and basic facilities. It is not a large town, so pilgrims should not expect a full range of shops, pharmacies, ATMs, or restaurants.

The most important thing here is the arrival over Puente Fitero and the nearby Ermita de San Nicolás. Both are worth noticing because they connect directly to the old pilgrim experience of crossing rivers, finding shelter, and moving between territories.
