Laredo is a Cantabrian beach town with a sweeping 5 km crescent of sand and a well-preserved medieval old town known as the Puebla Vieja. The contrast between the historic quarter's narrow streets and the modern beachfront gives the town a dual character.
Pilgrims will find albergues, hotels, restaurants, cafes, supermarkets, ATMs, and a pharmacy. The Puebla Vieja, with its six original gates and the Church of Santa Maria de la Asuncion, is worth exploring.
The approach to Laredo and the crossing of the bay (by boat or via Colindres and Santona) is one of the more logistically interesting sections of the Norte.
