Miño

Miño is a seaside town on the Betanzos ría that has long drawn Galician holidaymakers to its beaches. Its crown jewel is the Praia Grande, a dune-backed arc of sand about 1.4 km long that protects the marshes of the Baxoi river and has flown a blue flag since 1984. Smaller beaches such as A Ribeira and Alameda, where the tide pulls far out across the sand, add to the appeal.

Like much of this coast, Miño lay within the lands of the Andrade lords, and the medieval bridges on either side of town are part of that legacy. The mouth of the Lambre just beyond is protected under the Natura 2000 network.

The pilgrim albergue is near the beach, about 600 metres off the Camino, with a signposted turn at the entrance to town, which makes Miño an appealing alternative to Betanzos if you'd rather end your day with a sunset walk on the sand. Leaving town, watch for a colourful viewing platform over the ría, then take care after the footbridge over the railway: the arrow directs a sharp U-turn that many pilgrims miss.
