About Navarrete
Navarrete is a town in La Rioja on the Camino Francés, between Logroño and Ventosa. For pilgrims, it is a useful overnight stop or rest point after leaving the city and walking through vineyards, parks, and open countryside.
The town has a strong medieval history and was built in a defensive position on a hill. Its Camino importance is closely tied to the old Hospital of San Juan de Acre, founded in the 12th century to care for pilgrims. The hospital ruins sit near the Camino before town, while parts of its old doorway were later reused in the cemetery entrance. Navarrete is also known for pottery, wine, and its old streets clustered around the hill.
Navarrete has good pilgrim services. It has albergues, hotels, restaurants, cafés, shops, bakeries, supermarkets, pharmacies, ATMs, and wine bars. It is a good place to eat, rest, resupply, or stay overnight before continuing toward Nájera.
The main sight in town is the Church of La Asunción, which has an impressive Baroque altarpiece inside. Pilgrims should also pay attention to the cemetery entrance and the old hospital ruins, both of which connect directly to the town’s Camino history.
