O Milladoiro

O Milladoiro is the last notable settlement before reaching Santiago de Compostela, a modern residential town on the southern outskirts of the city. It has cafes, a small supermarket, and basic services.

The town's name derives from the tradition of pilgrims leaving stones at milladoiros (stone cairns) as they approached Santiago. From the higher points near here, pilgrims may catch their first glimpse of the Santiago cathedral spires.

O Milladoiro has an albergue and serves as a final stopping point for pilgrims who prefer to arrive in Santiago fresh the next morning rather than arriving tired in the afternoon after a long day.
