Sacavem sits at the mouth of the Rio Trancao, where the Camino turns inland from the Tagus estuary. The town itself is unremarkable, a working-class suburb of Lisbon, but it marks a meaningful transition: the end of the urban walking and the beginning of the river valley that leads to Alpriate.
The decorated bus stop in Sacavem, covered in world-class street art, is an unexpected highlight. Beyond the town, the path follows the green valley of the Trancao through a more rural landscape. After hours of city walking, the quiet of the river trail is a welcome change.
