About Sahagún

Sahagun is a Meseta town of historical importance, known as the 'Capital of Romanesque-Mudejar' for its distinctive brick churches that blend Romanesque and Islamic architectural styles. The town roughly marks the halfway point of the Camino Frances from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port.

Pilgrims will find albergues, hotels, restaurants, cafes, supermarkets, ATMs, and a pharmacy. The Church of San Tirso and the Church of San Lorenzo are the finest examples of the Mudejar style.

The ruins of the Royal Monastery of San Benito, once one of the most powerful in Spain, hint at Sahagun's former importance. The town is a logical rest stop and marks a psychological milestone for many pilgrims.
