About Pontecesures

Pontecesures holds special significance in the Camino tradition. According to legend, the boat carrying the body of the Apostle Santiago sailed up the River Ulla and landed here. The Variante Espiritual, a popular alternative route from Pontevedra via boat, rejoins the main Camino at Pontecesures.

The town has a medieval bridge, a train station on the Vigo-Santiago line, and basic services including cafes and restaurants. The Monastery of San Julian de Requeixo is nearby. Pontecesures essentially forms a continuous urban area with neighbouring Padron.

For pilgrims walking the final stretch to Santiago, Pontecesures marks the point where the route becomes increasingly busy as it approaches the last 25 km.
