Sergude

Sergude is a rural parish in the municipality of Carral and the usual end of the first stage from A Coruña. Its Xunta albergue, opened in July 2014, is modern, well equipped and accessible, and it sits right on the Camino. The small village centre of San Xulián de Sergude, with a bar, lies about 400 metres further along the route.

Carral is known across Galicia for its bread, with a spongy crumb and crackling crust, made by bakers who have kept the craft alive for generations and celebrated at the Festa do Pan each spring. You'll pass one of the bakeries on the approach through Tabeaio. The municipality also holds a place in Galician history: in 1846 twelve officers who rose against the government of the day were executed in Carral, and they are remembered as the Mártires de Carral.

The next stage to Hospital de Bruma is short but starts with a real climb, so an early night here pays off.
