About Tardajos
Tardajos is a village in Burgos province on the Camino Francés, between Burgos and Rabé de las Calzadas. For pilgrims, it is one of the first useful stops after leaving Burgos and acts as a transition point from city walking into the open Meseta.
The village has a long history because of its position at a crossroads. It sat where the east-west Camino route met another north-south road, which made it useful for trade, travel, and movement across the Castilian plain. The area has been settled since Roman times, and Tardajos still feels like a working village shaped by roads, fields, and the Camino.
For pilgrims today, Tardajos has useful services, including accommodation, bars, food options, and basic village facilities. It is not as fully serviced as Burgos, but it is a good place to pause after the city exit or stay overnight if you want a shorter day.
There is no major must-see monument here, but the practical value matters. After Tardajos and Rabé de las Calzadas, the Camino becomes more open and exposed, so it is worth checking water, snacks, and sun protection before continuing.
