Tosantos

Tosantos is a small village in Burgos province on the Camino Francés, between Belorado and Villambistia. For pilgrims, it is a quiet stop after Belorado and a useful place to pause before the route continues through smaller villages toward Villafranca Montes de Oca.

The village has been part of the Camino for centuries, with its history tied to farming, local parish life, and the flow of pilgrims through eastern Burgos. Its most interesting sight is the Ermita de la Virgen de la Peña, a rock-cut hermitage built directly into the cliff outside the village. The small chapel is one of the most distinctive landmarks on this section of the Camino. 

For pilgrims today, Tosantos has some useful services, including a bar and pilgrim accommodation, but it is still a small village. Services thin out after Belorado, so it is worth carrying water and snacks rather than relying too heavily on each village along this stretch. 

The must-see is the Ermita de la Virgen de la Peña. Even if you do not walk up to it, you can usually see its stone façade set into the rock from the Camino side of the village.
