A small village on the route through Esteribar with an albergue, drinking fountains, and a bus stop, but no shops, bars, or other services.
Urdaniz is a small village in the municipality of Esteribar, sitting less than two kilometres from Zubiri in the foothills of the Navarrese Pyrenees. Like many settlements along this stretch of the Camino Francés, it developed along historic routes connecting the mountain passes to the plains of Navarre, and retains the quiet, agricultural character that larger towns nearby have gradually lost.
For pilgrims walking the Camino de Santiago, Urdaniz offers a (slightly off route) pause point with a water fountain and an albergue, though it has no shops, bars, or restaurants. Those needing supplies should stock up in Zubiri before arriving, or press on to the next larger stop. A bus connection here links the village to the wider Esteribar valley, which can be useful for walkers who need to adjust their plans.
The village itself is worth a moment's attention for its traditional Navarrese stone architecture and the surrounding landscape of forested hillsides and river meadows typical of this transitional zone between the Pyrenees and the Navarrese interior.
