About Valverde de la Virgen

Valverde de la Virgen sits in the province of Leon on the northern variant of the Camino, a short walk west of La Virgen del Camino. The village sits on the gently rolling paramo, the dry high plateau west of Leon.

The name combines Valverde (a common Spanish place name meaning green valley) with de la Virgen, a reference to the shrine of the Virgin of the Camino in the next town east. The village has a long agricultural history, with the parish church and a small number of houses making up the core of the village. The Camino has run through Valverde for centuries on the way west toward the Orbigo crossing.

Services are limited. There is generally a bar-restaurant. There is no albergue, no shop, no pharmacy, and no ATM. Most pilgrims walk through.
