About Alcuescar

Alcuescar is a small Extremaduran town notable for the nearby Basilica de Santa Lucia del Trampal, a rare surviving Visigothic church dating to the 7th century. The basilica was rediscovered in the 1980s buried under later construction.

Pilgrims will find an albergue, cafes, restaurants, and basic services. The long stage from Merida (36 km) makes Alcuescar a welcome stop.

The Visigothic basilica is a significant archaeological site and worth the short detour from the town centre.
