About Benavente

Benavente is a historic town in the province of Zamora with a partially ruined castle (the Torre del Caracol is the main surviving element), the Romanesque Church of Santa Maria del Azogue, and a pleasant town centre.

Pilgrims will find albergues, hotels, restaurants, cafes, supermarkets, ATMs, and a pharmacy. Benavente is one of the larger and better-serviced towns on the northern Via de la Plata.

The stage from Granja de Moreruela (45 km) is one of the longest on any Camino route and should be split with intermediate stops. The town sits at the confluence of the Esla and Orbigo rivers.
