About Vilei (Barbadelo)

Barbadelo sits in the province of Lugo, in Galicia, a short walk west of Sarria. The Camino runs through the heart of the small village.

The Iglesia de Santiago de Barbadelo is the village's principal Camino landmark. The 12th-century Romanesque church was built as part of a Benedictine priory dependent on the great monastery of Samos in the Oribio valley. It is a small but exceptionally well-preserved example of Galician Romanesque architecture, with a carved tympanum over the door and finely worked capitals inside. The priory itself is long gone, but the church remains active, and Barbadelo has been a Camino stop since the Middle Ages.

Services are limited but useful. There are albergues, bar-restaurants, and a small shop. There is no pharmacy or ATM.
